FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is AYSO Extra?
AYSO Extra is a soccer program that is geared to those players who want a higher level of competition and training but do not want to play Club soccer. Extra teams will be formed by several regions in Section 10. The Extra teams will play against each other during the Fall soccer season (10 games) and will have playoffs at the end of the season in addition to possible inter-sectional tournaments.
What teams will be formed?
Region 42 will be looking to form one Extra team for each of Boys and Girls in the U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15/16 divisions. Depending on the number of players trying out, this may result in approximately 12 teams being formed for the Fall season.
Who will coach the team?
The teams will be coached by a volunteer coach (just like we do for regular AYSO). The deadline for application is March 15th. Interviews will take place between March 16th and March 30th with coaches being announced by the beginning of April.
If you are interested in coaching, please complete the Extra Coach Application Form - 2013
Will there be professional trainers?
Each team will be able to utilize a professional trainer of their choosing. A part of the registration fee will comprise the budget for the trainers.
What is the registration fee?
The registration fee is the same as for the primary program but also includes fees to cover additional for uniforms (two jerseys) as well as training fees. Registrations fees will be greater for Extra players than primary program players
How long will the season last?
The Fall season will begin practicing in August (like we do for the regular AYSO season) with regular season running until November. In addition, there will be a League Cup in November along with an inter-sectional tournament that we expect to take place at the State Championships in March.
What is the time commitment for practice?
Practices will be twice a week for 90 minutes each practice session beginning in the middle of August.
How do players get chosen for the Extra team?
Players who are interested in playing on an Extra team should attend the tryouts that will be scheduled and held in April. Sign-ups in advance are strongly encouraged for all players interested in trying out. Players will need to show up for the tryouts with the documentation and materials listed on the tryout form. The selection committee will consist of independent members from our Region and/or professional trainers. Players who are selected for the team will be notified no later than May 1st.
How will a player register for the team?
Players who are selected for the Extra team will be contacted by their coach shortly after the tryouts. The coach will collect all registration materials and fees and will turn in the package for their team to the AYSO Region 42 Registrar. Players will NOT need to register at the regular Region 42 registration periods. Players are asked to work with their coaches and complete their registration package as soon as possible to demonstrate their commitment to the Extra program.
How many players will be on a team?
This will be just like the regular AYSO season, so the number of players on a team will be as follows:
U10 - 9 or 10 players
U11 - 12 players
U12 -12 players
U13 through U16 - 14 or 15 players
Will the Extra program utilize the 3/4 play rule?
Yes. All players who regularly attend practice and are committed to the team will play at least 3/4 of every game. For those players that habitually miss practice or games, the coach has the discretion to only play them for 1/2 of the game. Lack of commitment to the team for one season may hinder a player's chances of making the team the following year.
